Our History
The Cafe Theatre started as Jade Greene Productions in 1990, touring New Jersey restaurants with plays, interactive mysteries, and rock n' roll fairytales for adults and children. In 1992 we opened Thalia's Theatre in West Long Branch adding acting classes, musical events, walk-through haunted attractions and more to the mix. When the building was sold in 1994, we moved to Seaview Square Mall in Ocean Township, New Jersey, and began doing business as The Jewelbox Theatre. The Mall was razed in 2000, so we returned to our touring roots for a while. The Cafe Theatre opened in Toms River, New Jersey in 2005, but with rent going up and revenue shrinking due to the recession, it closed in 2008. In 2010 we created an agreement with the Southard Grange #218 in Howell, New Jersey, to utilize their hall, and the Grange Playhouse was born. When the pandemic ended theatre performances for its extended stretch, The Cafe Theatre continued to entertain via Zoom from both New Jersey and Maryland after founder Jade Greene made the move to Baltimore in 2021. Currently looking for an appropriate space in Baltimore, The Cafe Theatre is still touring and performed at the fabulous Hard Rock Cafe in the Inner Harbor, aboard the Choptank River Queen on the Eastern Shore, and for Poe House and Museum in a Haunted Theatre tour in Carroll Mansion, and The Poe Birthday Bash at Westminster Hall.

To provide a comfortable space where everyone can relax, enjoy themselves, laugh, think, and grow. We are dedicated to the idea of making theatre an affordable option to staying at home, and building a community between audience and company.
